Brian Smith is a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who was seriously injured while riding his beloved motorcycle the afternoon of Saturday, June 20, 2015, when a driver ran a red light in Rolla, Missouri. With the help of other drivers who witnessed the incident, 911 was quickly called, and Brian was whisked away by ambulance, then immediately air vac to Columbia, Missouri, for surgery on his leg and foot. Brian’s family spent Father’s Day by his side to help comfort him and ease the pain. Due to the extensive damage caused by the accident, Brian lost his leg from the knee down June 22. Brian is expected to encounter many more surgeries and the road ahead to recovery will be long. The timeline for Brian’s recovery is unclear and his expectancy to walk is unknown. Brian’s strength, spirit, and determination gives everyone hope. Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength. No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful the experience, if we lose hope, that's the real disaster – don’t give up!
