Help bring baby Ezra home

Donation protected

Hello world, meet baby Ezra. This little pumpkin was born to Jahkotta and Will Lewis on Friday, October 28, 2016. Although he is fully expected to be a happy and healthy baby, he has a long journey ahead.

Ezra was born via a C-section at 37 weeks but is exhibiting signs that would be seen in a baby born much earlier. He is having trouble breathing, and his autonomous nervous system is not functioning as well as it needs to be for a newborn baby outside of the womb. He will stop breathing for periods of time, at which point he needs help to start breathing again. This means he needs monitoring 24-hours a day, with nurses checking his vital signs around the clock. Jahkotta and Will have not been given a clear timeline by the doctors on how long it will take Ezra to  get better, but have been told that he will most likely need to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for up to three weeks.

Thankfully, Will and Jahkotta are fortunate enough to have insurance to cover Ezra's hospital stay, but keeping the family together over the next few weeks will be very difficult financially. Jahkotta will be staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Honolulu, and will be staying there until she can take little Ezra home to Hilo. During this time she will be incurring daily lodging and food costs as she goes to the hospital be with their son.

In the next few days, Will must return to Hilo  to care for his and Jahkotta's two sons; Kellan, 2, and Rowan, 6.  With Jahkotta on Oahu, Will is unable to work his evening job, and will have to take leave without pay in order to care for his boys.  This will present a financial hardship for the family, and they are turning to friends and family to help share in the costs and help support them in their time of need.

It is our sincere hope that we can get enough support to keep Jahkotta in Honolulu during this time so that she can nurse Ezra and be with him as he gets strong enough to come home.

We ask for your donations, anything that you can spare that can go towards making sure mother and son are together over these next few weeks.

The money will  be used to cover food and lodging costs for Jahkotta while she is staying with Ezra, to help offset the costs of Will's missed work, and to provide emergency transportation to Oahu, should the need arise.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
