Last night, I was headed to attend a birth in Southern Minnesota when a deer ran in front of my car. I was driving 70mph on the highway when I hit the deer. The airbags deployed, and the car instantly filled with white smoke. I immediately pulled over to assess the damage, and it was instantly apparent that our family car was totaled.

As a certified professional midwife and a mother of 3 children, having a working car is absolutely imperative for our livelihood. We are a single income family, and had only one family car. My job requires me to be constantly on-call for laboring families, as well as to have the ability to get up and go where I am needed when I am needed. Without a working car, my ability to work, and to provide for my family would be deeply at risk. Furthermore, the families I work with depend on me to be able to get to them during the most important day of their lives.

Unfortunately, our insurance company has informed us that our policy does not cover any accident that doesn’t involve another driver. We are going to completely responsible for the cost of a new family car.
In the midst of a pandemic, and in my first year of practice as a solo practice midwife, the expense of a new car is not something that we are prepared for. We are asking for community support to raise money to help us afford a down payment for a family vehicle that is safe and reliable.

We are hoping to raise $10,000 for the down payment and associated fees for a family vehicle. We are searching for a car that will accommodate our family, and that is safe and reliable.
We deeply appreciate your willingness to help our family during this difficult time. If you are unable to donate, but are willing to help us spread the word, please share our story. We are so thankful for our village, and for your generosity and support.
With love,
Midwife Britt and Family
