Save the Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge
Tax deductible
All of us at Save the Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge would like to give you a big “thank you” for contributing to our GoFundMe crowdfunding platform. We did not reach our goal of raising $150,000.00, but through your help and the help of others, we succeeded in achieving our ultimate goal.
Our organizations have been working with the administrators of Miller County, where the bridge is located, to help with the restoration. After many requests and meetings, they agreed to put a measure on the ballot to fund the rehabilitation of the bride. On April 2 of this year, the citizens of Miller County passed a sales tax of 1/8 of one cent to rehabilitate the bridge. The measure passed, and we now have the funding to open our bride.
Since the funding is now in place, we will discontinue our GoFundMe platform.
The plan is to send our bids to contractors in the Fall of 2024. Work plans to start in the Spring of 2025, with the opening in the Spring of 2026. FANTASTIC.
We all are so excited about reopening the bridge after such a long delay.
Your contribution, whether small or large, has helped support our effort to open the bridge.
Thanks again, and we will keep you updated on future progress. We look forward to the day when we have a really big “Bridge Opening Celebration and Party.”
The Brumley Swinging Bridge has carried vehicles over the Grand Auglaize Creek for the last 90+ years and is now in peril of being lost forever. The bridge is a monument to the resources and ingenuity of one man, circa 1930, that built this bridge for the local farming community.
In January of 2020, this last “swinging bridge” in the state of Missouri to carry vehicular traffic was closed due to its structural defects. Located in the southeastern portion of Lake of the Ozarks State Park, the bridge has been an invaluable resource for the community and a highlight for tourists visiting the State Park.
The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge has been a landmark in the area, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the Missouri Historic Preservation Alliance. It has been featured on numerous travel sites as a “Must See” place at the Missouri Lake of the Ozarks.
“Save The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge” organization will continue to strive forward on its mission to restore and repair this historic bridge through donations from the public sector. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3), all donations are tax deductible.
