We are taking Buddy on one last road trip to visit his parents. We just get in the car and go when we have to and the time is now. On June 3rd Katie, Marcus and myself will drive to Chapel Hill, NC to visit with Buddy's father Jack, his second mother Sally, his second sisters Alison & Ashley and their families. We will break bread, say a toast for Bud and share memories. On June 5th from 4-8 p.m. we will be at Packy Malley's Reggae Club in Cleveland, Ohio. We will share our stories of an incredible husband and father with friends he hasn't seen in 25 years. His mother Lynn and uncle Dan will share with us the childhood stories about the boy who played baseball, football, rode equestrian horses and studied the flute. His musician friends will share their tall tales of his screaming guitar, first guy to dance, motorcycle riding goof ball days. When I met Buddy he had just had his first leg amputated and of course my children know him with both gone, so these stories are priceless. Billy Coakley is putting together a collection of Buddy's favorite reggae tunes. Everyone is welcome. We will break bread, say a toast for Bud and share memories On June 13th from 7-9 p.m. we will gather on a private beach in Key Largo. Buddy and I were married on this beautiful beach and it is where we dedicated both of our children. We will share a chilled Cuervo cocktail at sunset with our closest friends and share wonderful memories. Buddy's brother Wayne and his beautiful wife Tina will join Katie, Marcus and myself as we rest Buddy's ashes in the sunset filled gulf of the Florida bay. This was our home. On Tuesday, June 14th, from 7-11 p.m. the Oceanview Inn & Pub at mile marker 84.2 bayside will host a musical tribute for Buddy Hammond. Musicians from near and far will gather to play in his honor. On stage will be a powerhouse of talent. Joining Wayne Hammond will be Dave Feder, Jimmy Hawkins, Chucky Thunderhead, Jesse Miller, Raiford Starke, Jimmy Darden, Paul Canella, Felix Hawkins, Todd Lollis, Allan Truesdell and Ted Hyde just to name a few. Everyone is welcome to this musical soothing. Our journey is just beginning and we know that we are caught in a whirlwind of flooded emotions. For those of you asking what you can do to help, the answer is send money. I have gathered all the resources needed to pull this adventure off but it is in the execution that I need the greatest strength. I have been out of work since February. We were trying to better our situation because I had to work 60 hours a week to make ends meet. So we decided to struggle to find a job that paid me enough so I could only work 40 hours and have more time with my family. Buddy needed me home more. His SSi was $16.00 a month but thank God they paid his medical bills, so no complaints. Although we were broke and starting to pawn the jewelry we had each other. The real blessing was that we spent Buddy's last 10 weeks together everyday. We job searched, and held hands, we went to doctors and took rides to the river. We were very blessed. Now I just need help getting through the next few weeks without turning anything off. Pray for us and send out vibes of safe journey to the universe for us. We have each other. We are strong and we know great love. xo I start my new job on June 16th.
On May 2nd, we lost an important member of our music community, a fine musician, a loving father, a beloved husband and a treasured son and brother.
William “Buddy” Marc Hammond, passed away on a sunny afternoon.
It was a good day.
The sun was shining, the birds were singing, the breeze was blowing, the reggae was playing and his wife was on the computer tweaking her resume.
Buddy & Sheree spent every day of the last two months together, holding hands, taking rides to the river, hoping Sheree would find the right employment, and building their front yard garden patio.
It was a good day.
Buddy left this earth while watering their garden.
He was very proud of his wife.
He had hopes and dreams for his 2 wonderful children. Marcus is turning 15 this week and Katie will be turning 22 in July.
He was 57 years old and he will be dearly missed.
So many in the community have asked how they can help the family during this horribly difficult time.
This fund will be used to help Buddy’s family with any financial burdens they may face.
There will be a Musicians Jam to honor Buddy Hammond on June 14th at the Oceanview Lounge in Islamorada, FL . everyone is welcome.
