The Stray Sanctuary’s Shelter Building

Tax deductible
The Stray Sanctuary is a 501c3 Non-Profit Local Animal Rescue serving western North Dakota by providing services to the stray, unidentified, & uncontained animals of our community by providing emergency rescue efforts, food, water, safe shelter, veterinary care, and adoption opportunities.

The Vision of The Stray Sanctuary is to prevent unfit reproduction of animals which are roaming public streets. These prevention efforts are a necessity due to the overpopulation of animals which are unspayed, unneutered, unvaccinated, uncontained, and unidentified.

Our Mission is to help our local community by preventing overpopulation, preventing spread of canine disease, preventing animal bites and injury, preventing animal suffering, and preventing potential death.

The Stray Sanctuary focuses efforts of animal rescue towards counties of western North Dakota, including the community of The Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. This includes Native American Tribal Land spanning across the Missouri River Basin. MHA Nation consists of the Three Affiliated Tribes of Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation within segments of White Shield, Parshall, New Town, Four Bears, Mandaree, and Twin Buttes.

In total, the reservation encompasses 5 counties whereby The Stray Sanctuary assists multiple law enforcement agencies that do not otherwise have an animal rescue alternative in the area. Each county along with MHA Animal Control have separate protocol for stray animals; The Stray Sanctuary seeks to delineate these said protocols to serve all the counties under one umbrella of Animal Rescue: The Stray Sanctuary.

As of June 27th 2023, a running total of 382 animals from western North Dakota had found rescue through The Stray Sanctuary — all of which in our personal garage temporarily transformed into a safe space for wandering animals. In the first 6 months of 2023 alone we rescued 135 animals, this exceeded our previous total of 93 animals in 2022, and 154 animals in the full calendar year of 2021.

As of February 29th 2024, 538 animals have been helped through these doors. Already 68 animals have been helped by The Stray Sanctuary in 2024 alone. We spend an average care cost of $785 per animal for basic, minimal care.

Every single month The Stray Sanctuary spends an average of $14,582.00 on animal care. Basic, minimal care of animals through our doors, monthly.

Rescue, Food, Water, Shelter, Electricity, Spay/Neuter for population prevention, Vaccinations for population protection, Phone/Internet, Website, Office Supplies, Garbage Disposal, Grooming, & Daily Facility Operations.

Donations allow us to do what we do. We provide these rescue services, operate and maintain a safe shelter, provide the necessities of food & water, facilitate basic and emergency veterinary care, supply vaccinations, achieve preventive spay/neuter alteration’s, and offer adoption opportunities.

We want to continue to provide services to stray, unidentified, & unclaimed animals of western North Dakota, but we need your help.

Even while utilizing our Non Profit discount on local veterinary care, we still continue to spend approximately $250 each animal on each spay/neuter and distemper/rabies vaccinations.

This number is not including the additional rescue efforts, food, water, shelter, emergency vet care, and adoption opportunities we provide.

We are passionate about helping our community, but we need help ourselves. We can’t continue out of the goodness of our hearts, we can’t continue to beg our friends and family for donations. We are asking for assistance in achieving proper funding so we can continue our passion of providing rescue.

The Stray Sanctuary currently operates by way of donations raised by friends and family through social media. We appreciate every single one of you who have supported us thus far. All donations received have and will continue to directly benefit rescued animals of western North Dakota.

Your donations allow us to provide rescue services, operate & maintain a safe shelter, give the necessities of food, water, & shelter, facilitate basic and emergency veterinary care, supply vaccinations, & achieve preventative spay/neuter alterations.

We are currently in the process of building a facility to safely house our rescues and provide them with the best possible care.

Money raised will go directly into The Stray Sanctuary’s building account & will directly benefit the new building’s next phase in the building process. We will continue to fundraise focusing on each step as we go.

You are welcome to follow along with the building process as we continue to post on our Facebook page every step of the way. As of February 29th 2024 the excavation, underground plumbing, & concrete is complete. The lumber package has been purchased and is on site with scheduled framing set for March 2024.

With your donations, we promise to stretch every penny.

Thank you for helping us assist our local stray animals,
