Hi , My name is Teresa and I am April’s cousin. Since she moved back to Boone in 2011, April has gone from being a single person with no kids to the wife of a Navy veteran and fulltime adoptive/bonus mom to five kids in need of a mother. She is someone who shows up for people and never gives up on justice for her children and her community.
On the night of November 29, April attended a public meeting that she had encouraged people in the community to attend regarding a City Council plan to privitize the City's Sewer and Water operations. After the meeting, she gathered with a few friends to chat on the sidewalk out in front of City Hall to discuss the meeting and catch up. While standing there, a Trump supporter who has repeatedly harrassed April and her friends came up to her accusing her of another ridiculous rumor about something she said. This person asked April to speak with her privately and fearing for her safety, April refused. The attacker escalated and continued pushing in on April as she backed away asking her to back off and get away. A friend also asked the attacker to stop moving toward them agressively. Within seconds the attacker had pushed one person into a concrete retaining wall and grabbed April by the hair to hit her in the face repeatedly. When April screamed for help and fell to the ground in the fetal position to protect her head from continued blows, the attacker's husband blocked a bystander from trying to get the attacker off of April. Once the attacker was pulled off of her by a civilian and April was able to sit up, the attacker then took a step back as if to gain momentum and kicked her in the head.
It was a brutal assault that could've killed her. She's still not 100% out of the woods yet in terms of the injuries she suffered. It's no longer safe for her family of nine to live in the town that she was born and raised in.
I am looking for your assistance to help April and her family heal from this devastating experience, upgrade their household security and accelerate their plans to relocate to a safer community.
