Hi, my name is John Calohan and I would like to tell you about a dear friend of mine, Steven Burton. Steven is a single father of 3. His eldest two, Briana (14) and Joey (11), live with him fulltime and he is currently fighting for custody of his youngest daughter, Delilah (6). In February 2014 Steven was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The 1st step for treatment was surgery, which he went through in April. After recovering and seeming to be doing well, later in July, he switched jobs from working as a “skip tracer” for a local company called NRI, to working student loan collections for a sister company in Rolling Meadows, IL. Steven was doing well in his new position and was quickly becoming one of the company’s top employees when his cancer returned and hit hard. November 25th Steven was admitted into the hospital and once again went through surgery to try and remove what cancer was there, but further testing revealed this would not be enough and the doctors needed to get him started on chemotherapy as soon as possible. Beginning December 15th, Steven started chemo treatments, every day for 5 days with a 2 week break in between cycles.
These circumstances and treatment adventures has left him unable to work and because of the transfer in companies, he has not been with the new company long enough to qualify for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). This single dad is not earning any income and therefore his family is struggling to make ends meet. He has a rent payment of $650 due each month, and even with extremely generous landlords, this family has the possibility of losing their home. Other financial responsibilities include his car payment on his used car, insurance payments for his car, his small phone bill each month, utilities for their home, and all of the smaller expenses of raising a family on his own. (He is currently receiving some help for groceries.)
This amazing little family really needs more help than we alone can give and is why I am reaching out and why this account has been set up. Steven is a good man, a great friend, and a remarkable father.
So, to the groups and individuals willing to help pitch in, WE ARE GREATFUL! Thank you for your time and willingness to help someone who really needs it.
Sincerely,
John Calohan
