THE CHALKWELL LIFEGUARDS (RLSS) KIND DONATIONS

Donation protected
The Chalkwell Lifeguards are a 100% volunteer-ran Beach Rescue Unit founded in 1978 to save lives on the mudbanks at Chalkwell Beach and deep in the sea.

Members of Chalkwell Lifeguards are participating in another SPRINT TRIATHLON on the 14th of July 2024 to continue raising funds for the repairs and maintenance of our equipment, uniforms, and supplies that are crucial to the life-saving services we provide to the public.

The sprint triathlon is made up of a 750m sea swim, and a 20km bike ride, followed by a 5K run!

Who we are
We are a volunteer beach search and rescue unit and patrol the beaches at Chalkwell in Essex.
Formed in 1978 to help prevent incidents on the mud banks along Leigh Creek and Hadleigh Ray. The unit is declared an HM Coastguard and Rescue Facility. Affiliated to Royal Lifesaving Society UK and following their codes of practice, including Safeguarding. All patrol members hold a minimum of a First aid qualification.

What we do
We regularly patrol and monitor the Chalkwell area on foot, by boat - canoe /rescue paddle boards/speed boats and peddle bikes. We observe activities in assigned areas using binoculars to detect hazards, disturbances, or safety threats.
We are qualified First-aiders and are trained to provide CPR (AED). We have undertaken appropriate training to give treatment to the public in the event of an injury or illness.
We offer a range of training sessions for all the public.
We complete and maintain records of weather and beach conditions, emergency medical treatments performed and other relevant incident information.
We carry communication radios that interlink with other emergency beach support units.
We look out for people in distress in or out of the water and are always ready to assist with injuries, concerns or questions.
We assist, warn and advise the public of dangers in keeping "Chalkwell Beach" safe for the community.

Why the community needs us
The unique work that our voluntary service does, benefits the whole community who visit the beaches at Chalkwell and surrounding areas. By providing a rescue service we make a difference by being there to rely on in times of need. Due to the tides and currents at the location, it can become very dangerous for those people who are visitors to the area and are unaware of the hazards and quickly changing rough weather conditions affecting people's safety.

Our impact on the community
We examine injured or distressed persons and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, if necessary, using our training and medical equipment and rescue techniques. The training sessions we provide to the public prevent emergencies from happening and teach the public what to do in case of an emergency. The skills and knowledge gained from our sessions can be the difference between the life and death of an individual.

Please donate
Please donate what you can - 100% of the funds will go towards the running costs of the unit. We are completely reliant on public funding and could not provide the life-saving services that we do without your help.

We know times are tough for everyone at the moment, and ask if you are unable to donate, please share our fundraiser with friends and family and on social media so we can raise awareness and help the public recognise the Chalkwell Lifeguards and our Hut in an emergency (Landmark picture above).

Please donate to keep our wonderful beaches safe and help us to keep the public safe.
