Looking at Greg Cody he may just seem like your ordinary happy southern man in a cute ole pair of overalls with the biggest smile you'd ever seen but to everyone in Currituck County and to anyone that has had the blessing of getting to know him knows that he is much more than ordinary. Greg is well known by his Currituck family for his well drilling business and for being the caring man he has always been, being quick to stop what he is doing to help others even on the bitter cold days or when he wasn't feeling well. Wherever you saw Greg you were sure to see his sidekick Liz Cody close by. Liz too is well known and loved by her community and all of her students for her many years of being a school bus driver. 37 years to be exact! The two started dating back in 2003 and quickly married in 2004. Liz has always been the caregiver, the fixer, the one who is always approaching life looking ahead and with a “serious business” attitude. When Greg came into her life he was able to soften her up and has given her a reason to “relax” a little, to slow down and laugh. 9 years ago Greg and Liz's world was shaken with his diagnosis of having Pre B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Short after his diagnosis, he was admitted into the hospital for a month for treatments forcing them both to stop working and doing all the things they loved. This is where Greg's battle began but little did they knowing the severity of this disease and the toll it would take on them. They went from having money, a company and living worry-free to having to quit working, being broke, Greg having cancer and not know what or how everything would end up. They ended up having to close down Gregs business of 30 years, lost their truck and had to refinance their home to make ends meet. After months of treatments, Greg underwent a bone marrow transplant who his sister was the perfect match for. Greg continued much treatment and many visits to and long stays, basically living inChapel Hill over the course of the next year before he made it to remission. Liz was able to return to work and Greg's main focus was to heal and take care of himself. January 2019 Greg went for a bone marrow biopsy and given the terrible news that the Leukemia was back at full force. Greg is now back to doing 6 weeks of chemo much more testing and infusions. Liz is back on a leave of absence to stick by his side while he has to stay in Chapel Hill and getting him to and from his appointments and treatments. These two people have touched so many and done so much for our community and the children of Currituck County and they need their communities help now more than ever so that they can focus on getting Greg well and home again. If you feel it in your heart to pour into their lives please donate to help alleviate this financial burden on them. No donation is too small and every little bit helps! If you're unable to make a donation prayers are very much needed!
