In 2000, Hannah was hiking and found herself in a precarious and horrific situation. A friend of hers was hit by a falling tree. She and her brother lifted the tree off of their dying friend and she slid her body underneath the tree to keep it from crushing him. Unfortunately, he died on impact and the weight of that tree has impacted Hannah's life in huge ways.
She was diagnosed with a rare nerve disease called CRPS TYPE 2 in 2005, directly linked to her accident, as her leg had been crushed under the tree. Hannah met with many specialists trying to find the proper diagnosis for what was happening in her body. Finally this rare and painful nerve disease was the final diagnosis.
Since her diagnosis, Hannah has spent the last 11 years trying to keep this painful immobilizing condition in remission. She had surgical nerve sympathectomy, multiple physical therapy treatments, and many medications.
Hannah became a massage therapist in 2006, wanting to understand pain and it's correlations to emotions and movement patterns. She specializes in neuro muscular massage techniques.
Her challenge to love her body despite her physical pain became her driving force to help others. She opened a business called Maitri Massage, based in New Haven CT where she taught a massage yoga class and offered her neuromuscular treatments. The sole purpose was to help others, and remind herself, to treat our bodies with compassion and loving kindness in action and words.
In 2015, after many treatments in MAT(muscle activation technique), regular massages, Pilates, acupuncture and a regimented anti-inflammatory diet, her condition began to rear its ugly head. Now she needs our help! Some of the treatments she needs are not offered through insurance and cost thousands and thousands of dollars. Hannah has already been out of work for months, trying to manage the pain in her right leg. She has not been able to walk alternating between crutches and wheelchair. She moved in with friends to receive the care she needs. Please help Hannah get the treatment she needs!
Thank you for your contribution.❤️
