Carter Martin Medical Fundraiser

Donation protected

Hello everyone!

My name is Chari Skinner. I have had the grateful opportunity to know Kelly Forsthoff Fields since we met about 24 years ago at Eastern Hills Bible Church in central New York. She is allowing me to reach out to you, to help her son, Carter Martin.

Carter is currently going through some serious and mysterious medical issues that the Fields family needs answers to.
Carter is 12 years old and is currently in the 6th grade. He was diagnosed at a very young age with, Chromosomal Deletion 16P11.2 and Chiari type 1 Malformation. I know this is confusing to most, what does it all mean?
Carter is currently experiencing multiple seizures throughout the day and at night. His Dr. says he is experiencing "spells of intoxication," which is a coma like state, meaning it has been very difficult for him to wake, even during the day. He has a diagnosis of epilepsy, but has been experiencing a significant increase of seizures in the last few weeks, including headaches, and this is a cause for deep concern. They believe he is having seizures during his sleep as well, which is extremely scary for the family.

Carter is also experiencing regession with speech and motor function. And has also been experiencing bathroom accidents, which for a 6th grader, can be pretty embarrasing. Can you remember what it was like to be in 6th grade, and then to be experiencing all of this too!?

Since Carter is experiencing this long list of symptoms, The Fields family has been searching for answers and they have been accepted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. They currently have an appointment January 9th, 2017 and will be there for the week. Carter will be receiving treatment and testing through the Pediatric Diagnostic Clinic, including the following:
EEG, Brain MRI, Blood Work
@ the Neurology Clinic
@ the Developmental Clinic
@ the Speech Clinic
And any further assesment needed.

We are raising money because they need help with airfare, accommodations and insurance. Carter's deeming waiver(Georgia Insurance) is not accepted at the Mayo Clinic and they are looking at paying the FULL DEDUCTIBLE because this much needed appointment is at the beginning of the year! We ALL know how difficult it is paying out of pocket for our medical needs. This is our chance to help a wonderful boy in need of the treatment he deserves!

This campaign will end Jan. 1st, 2017.
We have 1 month, as a community, as leaders, as mothers and fathers and even as strangers to give to a boy that needs our help. This is the time of year that families should not be worrying about these struggles. Even if you do not know the Fields Family, you know this is the time of year to give a truly wonderful gift to someone who really needs it. This is YOUR chance.

Some things about Carter, He enjoys riding horses and lifting weights for the Special Olympics. He has three brothers, who love him dearly and he enjoys meeting new people. Carter definitely brings a special joy to everyone he meets.
I stand behind Carter and his family, because they are truly wonderful and deserving folks. I am doing this because I am tired of sitting on the sidelines when I see a child in pain and I could have helped. Please, help in anyway you can.

Thank you and your support is much appreciated!
