Hi, I am Katrina, aka ChessKat.
You can find me here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/ChessKat/
I love chess and I have been playing chess since I was 7 years old.
Picture above: I was playing in Junior High School Grade National Championship in Florida in December 2014
After many attempts, I am finally qualified to compete in the World Youth and Cadets Chess Championships 2015. This coming October, I am going to represent the USA in Greece. My official United States Chess Federation (USCF) rating for April 2015 is over 1700! I am currently the top 30 (under 13 year old girls) chess players in the United States. (Update: As of June 2015, My rating is now 1854, I am currently the top 8 under 13 year old girls in the USA! yay!)
FIDE Calender for the event
Even though not many girls play chess, I believe that girls can play well in chess!
Picture above: I was playing in Junior High School National Championship in Louisville, KY in April 2015
Please help me, so I will have enough money to go to the World Youth International Chess Tournament!
It is my honor to join Team USA and represent USA in this event and I sincerely hope that you can help me to make this dream come true!
Thank you very much, everone! :)
Sincerely,
ChessKat =^.^=

I would like to share a little story:
After my dad and brother came back from nationals they told me about GM Alexandra Kosteniuk and how she is the “Chess Queen”. She inspired me to start chess. When I was younger I may have not understood the game or the reason to play.
I have improved now, and I have grown to be more mature. Chess became much more than just a game to me. It is my greatest passion and the best hobby for me. Through chess, it shows my emotions, my talent; Over the sixty-four squares, it shows who I am --- I am “Chess Kat”.

I attend IS 318 in Brooklyn. Perhaps many will be familiar with the movie, “The Brooklyn Castle”. One may think that my life is easy and just have fun and play chess every day. Truth be told, it is not that simple and it requires a lot of hard and dedicated work.
Every day I try to make sure that my homework is completed perfectly for the next day. It is very normal for me to sleep at 11pm, 12 am, or sometimes during night tournament school days, at 1:00 am.
Yes, my life may be a bit of a struggle but I can manage to maintain a decent average of 97+.
But my life is not just all homework, I smuggle time to do chess as well.
Picture above: My photo for fund raising.
In the beginning of the year I did a lot of chess and quite of puzzles and my strength showed. When I stopped for a short period of time, I started to get worse; so therefore I am doing a lot more chess puzzles and hopefully the rating will show.
I want to share this with everybody because I want to encourage everyone to improve --- the girls especially --- don't worry about be calling a dork or anything similar in that context; work hard, study hard, play hard and never give up! Just be yourself and you'll succeed.

In the past few months, there are a few newspaper reported about my school and I, here is one example:
Picture above: Sing Tao Daily (International Paper) March 23, 2015, titled: "11 year old Katrina Wong is invited to Team USA Chess Team"
♞▀▄▀▄♝▀▄♞▀▄▀▄♝▀▄♞▀▄▀▄♝▀▄♞▀▄▀
Picture above: World Journal (International Paper), January 2015, titled: "all asain girls team rocks!" 4 of the 5 girls in my school, in the picture, made it into Team USA as well; but sadly, only I am going.
