3/9/23 Update:

BIG NEWS! Chet was moved out of ICU yesterday to a room that requires less intensive care! They are also now working on an exit strategy for after he leaves the hospital (rehab facility, location, etc). Both monumental developments!

This is great news! He’s healing up quickly and his spirits are good. Thank you all so much for the love and support. Chet is blessed to have such a great circle of friends. Please continue to send cards to Kerry Loring at KRCR TV, 755 Auditorium Drive, Redding, CA 96001.

From Chet's Family: Chet had another surgery for skin grafts this week and is recovering in the burn unit at the hospital. He has started physical therapy and walking with some assistance. He is alert and able to carry on brief conversations.

Chet’s fighting spirit is shining through whether it’s doing a few extra reps in PT or trying to talk a little more when the nurse says he should give his voice a rest. The cards and messages from everyone have been amazing. They line the windows of his room and each one brings a smile to his face. 1/11/23 Update: Doctors say Chet will likely be in the hospital for up to 5 months so we are raising the target goal of this Go Fund Me from $20,000 to $35,000. These donations are critical to helping his family take care of his affairs.

Chet had his first surgery this week and will have more surgeries in the coming weeks. He is still on a ventilator and heavily sedated with around-the-clock care. His medical team is working diligently to keep him stable and keep infections at bay. Chet has a long road ahead and your support is so appreciated.

Cards and photos are allowed in his room so we are starting a “Cheer for Chet” campaign. 11/9/23 Update: Chet is in the Burn Unit at a top hospital. He is on a ventilator and will be for another week. He is conscious but cannot speak, however, can nod his head yes or no in response to questions. He has both 2nd and 3rd burns to approx. 50% of his body.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This will be a long road ahead and your support is appreciated.

A fire was reported around 5:50 a.m. on January 5, 2023, at the corner of Oregon and Shasta Streets while Chet was home and as a result, he received third-degree burns. Chet is an amazing father, trusted therapist, caring friend and the patron saint of the Grindstone Cigar Club. The Redding Fire Department report the blaze broke out in the attic of the historic building in downtown Redding.

Chet was transported to UC Davis Burn Unit to be treated for his injuries.

His home and office sustained serious damage so his brothers in the Grindstone are putting together this Go Fund Me to support Chet, his children and his family during his recovery journey.

Chet is a noted historian in Shasta County and much of his irreplaceable collection was destroyed.
