Chicago Server Pandemic Relief Fund
Donation protected
As Covid-19 spreads, local business plummets. While we in the service industry are already feeling the affects, the coming days and weeks will likely be much much worse. Thousands of Chicago servers will have their hours cut, lose countless dollars in tips and hourly wages. Some will lose their jobs to temporary closures.
For those of you who don’t know me personally, Hi I’m Felicia, long time server who moved to Chicago four years ago. I’ve been a waitress for 26 years now and I can honestly say I’ve never been faced with this type of job and financial insecurity. We’ve watched China, Italy, France and other countries lock down their businesses in an attempt to contain and slow the spread of this pandemic. Will America be next? I don’t know, I don’t think anyone can be sure. I do know that when/if it happens, the need is going to be unprecedented. Those of you who do know me know that I have a penchant for finding a worthy cause and diving head first into trying to help. We’ve raised money annually to support domestic violence survivors at the holidays. You can see more about that here if you’d like: https://www.nbcchicago.com/local/local-woman-uses-her-childhood-to-help-domestic-abuse-victims/167357/ We’ve raised money to buy school supplies for students and classrooms. I can’t count the number of small projects we’ve done and individual needs we’ve met. Now I’m asking you to join me in this effort to support myself and fellow servers as we try to navigate and survive this storm.
The situation is fluid, none of us knows how bad this will be or how long it will last. We’re just taking it day to day. As I can’t even guess how much support this fundraiser will receive it’s difficult to formulate an exact plan. I will however update you all frequently as things progress and flesh out a detailed plan for distributing funds.
Thank you to everyone who has a heart to help. Whether that’s through a donation or simply sharing this fundraiser, THANK YOU!
