Dublin Marathon for Acquired Brain Injury Ireland

If you are on this page, you have probably been "encouraged to" by myself and probably know my story, but to remind you...

I had a sub arachnoid hemorrhage (aka a stroke) in October 2021 while out running a 5k race with both kids (then aged 6 months and 3) in the buggy. This type of bleed is fatal in approximately one third of its victims. I spent a month in Beaumont and was out of work for 4 months as I struggled to get my headaches and pain under control. Courtesy of a fairly consistent pain management regime and a lot of luck I have made a pretty full recovery. Close to the 3rd anniversary of that I thought it a good idea to run the Dublin Marathon and raise money for ABII (Acquired Brain Injury Ireland).

Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is the leading provider of community-based rehabilitation services for brain injury survivors in Ireland. 19,000 people acquire a life altering brain injury every year in Ireland. Acquired Brain Injury Ireland are here to enable brain injury survivors to live an independent life in the community.

ABII, like a lot of charities, are amazing.

For me, I had to use them to get support in obtaining life insurance for a new mortgage. They were unbelievably helpful and knowledgeable and helped me after months of frustration on my part.

Therefore, I would be extremely grateful if you could give a donation on my behalf to this page.

"Competition" description:

1. 1st 42 donations of €20 or more are assigned a kilometre split

2. The sponsors of the Fastest and Slowest splits (as per my Strava on the day) get a prize

3. If you would like a specific kilometre let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate people on first come first served basis.

4. If all 42 spots aren't filled, the prize goes to fastest/slowest of the assigned kilometres
