Help Rebuild a Life After Tragedy

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Carrie and I’m creating this page in support and in out reach for my older brother, Christopher Helms.

On Jan. 09, 2024, his best friend of over 12 years suffered a mental break and violently attacked my brother leaving him in the hospital and murdered their friend/roommate. My brother was lucky to escape with his life.

As you can imagine this is all so tragic and devastating for the families and friends involved. It’s not something anyone can foresee coming and has quite literally turned my brothers life upside down.

After spending a few days in the hospital, Christopher has been released to an unrecognizable life with many challenges ahead. The first obstacle is finding him permanent housing as he was displaced from his home when his roommate was killed. All of his valuable belongings were stolen during the attack.

One happy moment was that he has now been reunited with his dog, Shannon. She was taken to the pound at the scene of this tragic event. As we are thrilled they are together and able to assist each other in the much needed healing to come…Shannon makes it even harder to find housing placement for him.

We are hoping to receive some assistance through Victims Services but the application process is tedious and challenging, and could take several months to process and be approved.

We are asking for any help at this point. All of the expenses will go toward housing, essential needs, basic medical and most importantly therapy and counseling! We are working with a primary doctor to schedule mental health and therapy services but he has yet to talk to anyone professional about the trauma he has experienced.

Thankfully his job is allowing him time to recovery from his physical injuries without the worry of losing his job…but the paychecks will have to wait for now. The emotional trauma, however, will likely take a lifetime to work through.

If anyone is able to help in this time of need please consider donating to Christopher and his dog Shannon. Your support does matter and can help rebuild his life.

In the midst of this unbelievable tragedy, I still know that the world and its people are good. I refuse to allow this act to close my heart or make me lose hope. I believe in love and I see it everywhere.

Thank you for your time and support,
May you be safe, healthy and happy
May you be peaceful and full of joy
May you be filled with loving kindness
