Majors’ Ian Robinson, David Granfield, retired Major Lee Jay and Captain Tony Buff will embark on this tough challenge on the 20 July 2021, commencing at 0300hrs and with an expected finish time of under 24 hrs. The team have decided to raise funds to support Combat2coffee a not for profit project established by a former member of 1 Royal Anglian with the aim of supporting Armed Forces Veterans who may be struggling with life outside of service.  The project has a particular focus on Mental Health and uses coffee and coffee shops as a vehicle for supporting former service personnel some of whom may have been in custody.  The aim is to raise £5000 towards opening a coffee shop in Bury St Edmunds, more details can be found on Combat2Coffee at:-

It is widely recognised that military service can have negative impacts on individuals mental health, in some cases leading to long lasting effects.  There is still a perceived stigma associated with admitting a mental health problem and seeking professional help.  With the recent sad loss of Sgt Mathew Slater, Pl Sgt in 1 Royal Anglian it has dawned on four ex 1 Royal Anglian soldiers to help raise awareness by tackling the Welsh 3000 in under 24hrs.

The Welsh 3000s are the 15 mountains in Wales that have a height of 3000 feet or more. Geographically they fall within three ranges: The  Snowdon Massif , The Glyderau, and The Carneddau. The total journey is 50km with nearly 4000m of ascent.  It will test our physical and mental resolve, some ridges are exposed with steep drops so a head for heights will be required. The ascents/descents are very strenuous so we will need to be "hill-fit". It is far more strenuous and requires more stamina than the National 3 Peaks Challenge.
