Connie Hillman - Awareness to SADS
In Memory of Connie Eve Hillman
On Wednesday 16th of June, our world was turned upside down by the sudden loss of our beautiful Daughter, Sister, Granddaughter, Auntie, Niece, Cousin and Friend Connie Eve Hillman.
Connie was 18 years old and in the prime of her life, studying BA Hons Early Childhood at Bath Spa University living the dream.
On that Wednesday Morning, Connie was due to be going to have a picnic in the sunshine with her friends at Bath Weir. When her friends knocked on her room and found no response, the alarm was raised. We were informed later that afternoon that our darling daughter had fallen asleep not to wake again. After a couple of weeks of investigation the cause of death has been confirmed as 'Sudden Adult Death Syndrome' (SADS) If the death cannot be explained, even after a post-mortem, and no cause can be found, this is called sudden adult death syndrome.
SADS affects around 500 people in the UK every year. It is so often the case that vibrant young people are taken away so suddenly by SADS. These types of deaths are totally bewildering and tragic, especially when so many young people appear perfectly healthy and happy beforehand.
Our beautiful bundle of love has taken away a piece of our heart that will never heal. In the 18 wonderful years that Connie was here, she touched so many people in so many places around the world. Our wish now is to raise awareness of SADS in order to prevent other families going through the pain and grief that our family are going through.
