Cpl Si Miller

The 24th of June 2023, a 20th year memorial football match was held in memory of my youngest son Cpl Si Miller, one of the six Royal Military Policemen killed in action in Majar Al Kabir, Iraq.

The event turned out to be a brilliant day which gave great comfort not only to me and my wife, but our eldest son Jon who is currently a serving Royal Military Policeman. It was a fitting tribute to Simon on this milestone anniversary.

The match was kindly hosted by Washington Football Club and as a thank-you, and being retired, I now volunteer my time to the club by helping to maintain their six football pitches.

I would like to continue year on year with the memorial match as a legacy to Si at his hometown club. Incorporating in this I have a vision of having an outside terraced area constructed on the back of the club house facing the Stadium pitch. The legacy would be cemented by having the naming rights, “Si Miller’s Bar”.

The funding for Football kits has already been raised, these kits will be re used year on year. This will be the last fund raising request regardless that the event run every year.

The club is for the community and currently has in the region 700 members that play football from the ages of 8 to 21 and over. The outside bar area wouldn’t be just exclusive for football, but for the whole community. The club is a non-profit organization and runs entirely on membership, local funding, and volunteers.
