Dear Friends,
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Flood v. Kuhn, my father's landmark U.S. Supreme Court lawsuit against Major League Baseball, and his effort to become a free agent, during the period when baseball's Reserve Clause, contractually bound players to team ownership (in perpetuity) like property.
Last week, and pursuant to the occasion, I received an invitation from Fred Frommer & Minyon Moore, of the DC-based communications & lobbyist firm, Dewey Square Group, to discuss a possible 'Curt Flood For Cooperstown' PR campaign (please see below). We anticipate the cost for a ten month program, to be $20,000 per month. To help with the costs, I've created a "CurtFlood4Cooperstown GoFundMe campaign.
As a career a strategic communications professional, I am certain a visibility, awareness, and lobbying campaign of this nature, will be the most vital component of a successful, multi-pronged and hard-hitting effort, if my father/his legacy is EVER to see the inside of Cooperstown; and one which will necessitate the backing, support, and inclusion of notable former and active MLB, NBA, WNBA, and NFL players; the Player's Associations, sports agents, politicians, sportswriters (sympathetic) labor and civil rights activists, and baseball fans, themselves.
So you are aware, I have heard a lifetime of warm sentiments, and supporting arguments, from countless friends--including many of you--and complete strangers, alike. And who routinely remind me of my father’s on field play, his legacy; and of the seismic impact his life, career, and the sacrifice has made on today’s stratospherically wealthy athletes; labor rights (sports); and the way sports business, overall, is conducted. And, trust me, while I appreciate beyond measure hearing those supportive things--and would love to see my dad finally get the recognition he deserves--I'm just one individual. And one with woefully limited resources as something like this goes.
As many of you know, my dad is enshrined in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame, and his induction into the National Baseball Museum & Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, is long overdue. So if you could support the effort by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, we would greatly appreciate it. Please let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to answer them.
Respectfully, Curt

Hi Curt,
I'm the Head of Sports PR at WPP’s Dewey Square Group in DC with an expertise in the intersection of sports and public policy, and my colleague, Minyon Moore, who heads up our firm’s Multicultural Strategies practice, forwarded me Bill Rhoden’s excellent piece on your quest to get your father in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Good to connect recently on LinkedIn.
Given my baseball knowledge and extensive media contacts, and Minyon’s deep connections to civil rights leaders, we were wondering if you’d be interested in having a call with us some time to discuss the possibility of hiring our firm to launch a campaign to push for your dad’s Hall of Fame entry.
Here’s a link the my website; my bio and a description of our firm are below my signature. Looking forward to chatting soon.
Thanks,
Fred
