In the Fall of 2017 I applied for American citizenship after 40 years of proudly living in this country. After passing the admission tests several months later I waited patiently 3 years for an answer.
That answer came on September 11th 2020, when a warrant was issued for my arrest by Homeland Security for a marijauna charge going back to 2008. That following Monday at 9 am I was arrested by ICE in my neighborhood on the way to the grocery store, shackled and taken to Seattle for 5 hours to be processed. It was not only a sad day for myself, but also this country.
The marijauna charge was a violation of my immigration and now I face a lengthy deportation case. In which legal defense is totaling a cost of $6,000. It's a sum larger than I can afford and I'm asking for help to secure council in order to defend myself against deportation.
This is a very strange and disheartening situation that has caused much stress for me. My initial impression was that I would defend myself. But due to further research into the process, and the delicate nature of a deportation trial, I have decided to search out funds to secure a lawyer.
On March 5th 2020 I received a certified letter stating my application for citizenship was denied due to being in removal proceedings. That letter made me feel like America broke up with me. If I were to beat this deportation case, my green card would still be active. Leaving me free to live in the United States as long as I wish.
Any support would be more than greatly appreciated! If you've known me at all, you have seen that my goal has always been to lift up this community, this country, and the spirits of the people I come across. My parents came to America to escape the future Yugoslavian War so I may live a safe and prosperous life. I have cherished my experiences in this country, and hope to further more be a part of a society that brings forth positivity and acceptance.
Thank you very much in advance for your help and for reading this:)
Many Blessings...
