◆ ABOUT me◆
im a warrior in recovery. At 18 years old, Guillain Barre Syndrome paralyzed him completely. Slowly. Painfully. He learned to walk again. Even with continued paralysis in his hands and feet, he worked for 30 years as an AT&T telephone cable repairman in Michigan. The Guillain Barre Syndrome virus caused him to contract IgAN, a kidney disease.
As the disease progressed, i had to retire and go on dialysis. I now spends 4+ hours, 3 days a week connected to machines to help keep him alive. Despite all of this, I havenever asked for help, until now. I have worked hard to lose 85lbs and is now eligible for a transplant. My insurance doesn't cover all of the transplant related expenses.
◆ WHAT ARE THOSE MEDICAL EXPENSES? ◆
Pre-transplant evaluation doctor visits, treatment, and testing
The surgery itself (including surgeon and operating room staff fees and anesthesia)
Time spent in the ICU (patients often stay there after surgery and sometimes before)
Organ recovery
Living in a hotel in Salt Lake City for up to 5 weeks and meals
Post-op physical therapy and rehab
Medications to stop my body from rejecting the new kidney
