Hello, my name is Kelli Dowling. Glen’s wife and David’s daughter in law. In lieu of flowers or gifts our family would greatly appreciate contributions to help with final expenses. Grandpa Dave came to live with us in January 2014 after loosing his wife, Rosalie, in January 2013 and then his eldest son, David, in January 2014. We’ll never truly know the reasons why, but the family had no life insurance policies and David had no savings or plan for the future. We couldn’t possibly have put him in a state run nursing facility with only his small social security check so we moved him from Arizona to live with us at Fort Belvoir, VA and for the next nearly 10 years G-Pa (as we referred to him) endured 5 military moves right along with us. Adding G-Pa to the mix with 3 young girls, dogs and a husband that seemed to work the longest hours as an officer in the United States Army definitely came with challenges, but I'd like to think that being with our vivacious family added many years to his life!! Having Dave with us these past years has been a wild adventure! Glen & I have no shortage of wacky stories of the crazy things Dave would constantly do always keeping us on our toes! G-Pa had many health issues over the past 9 1/2 years including a few types of cancer, congestive heart failure, dementia, a bout of Covid and most recently very decreased kidney function but all in all his body just grew tired. We were lucky enough to have been able to keep him here at home with us in Florida right until the very end. He will be missed most by our 3 amazing daughters. As Scarlett, our 12 yr old, so sweetly said a week ago, "Grandpa can't go... I don't know a house without Grandpa!"
