Chilean Daycare

A daycare center designed to provide free services to at-risk children and families in need was robbed of nearly $15,000 USD. 


This Summer, I volunteered with Protectora de la Infancia, a Chilean NGO with a mission to provide resources and educational opportunities for at-risk Chilean youth. My experience was incredible, and it was extremely dificult to say goodbye to the kids I worked with for two months. 

But, only two days after I returned back to the US, thieves robbed the daycare center, Buen Pastor,  where I had worked.  Approximately $15,000 USD  in supplies and cash was taken from the center. Everything from toilet paper to computers and portable heating systems (there is no central heating) was taken. 

After returning home, I already knew I wanted to do somethign to give back to the organazation that had welcomed me with open arms this summer. I thought of sending books and supplies, but now their situation has become more dire, and their need has greatened exponentially. I worked with two year olds and three year olds at the center. These kids were some of the sweetest most caring humans I had ever come in contact with, and it breaks my heart to know that the place that they go to five days a week, where they are fed and changed and told they are safe, has been harmed.
