We are the Dexter STEM Boosters located in Dexter Maine. We are raising money to support after school STEM activities for students in grades 5-12.
We currently have a very popular Science Club for grades 5-8 that we are looking to continue next year. During Science Club the students learn about STEM topics with a hands-on approach. Projects have ranged from making their own motorized cars and catapults to engineering rockets and origami. During these projects, youth have explored careers in STEM and reinforced concepts taught in the classroom. They have learned by doing, and have a ton of fun in the process!
There are so many students that want to participate in Science Club that we have a waiting list! Now that says a lot about this program. The fact that over 30 students want to participate in an after school academic program here in rural Maine tells us that this is a program that we need to raise money to continue.
We are also looking to expand the enthusiasm for STEM into the High School and are hoping that if we raise enough money we can support students who want to attend the Maine State Science Fair as well as start a 3D Printing or Robotics Club.
We are hoping to raise these funds for the 2016-2017 school year. A donation of $15 will provide an hour of STEM activities for up to 15 youth. The students of our schools in Dexter Maine appreciate any contributions you make!
