Diabetic Alert Dog forTracy

Dear friends and family,

It’s hard to believe that March 22, marks 2 years since Ulli passed. For the past two years Tracy and the boys have been adjusting. There has been joy and sorrow, along with triumph and challenge. One of the biggest challenges has been Russell’s diagnosis of Type-One Diabetes. We have all asked, "Really???”

Ulli is dearly missed. He played so many roles in our lives; father, husband, son, sibling, friend, informer, joker, gear-head, trip mate, and my personal favorite, Tracy's ultimate diabetic alert dog! We saw him faithfully watch Tracy, intuitively knowing when her levels were off. He would nudge her to make corrections, day and night.

With Ulli gone and Russell’s diagnosis, Tracy carries the weight of her family’s needs on her individual shoulders. While our dear friend Tracy takes great care of herself and the boys, Diabetes is an unpredictable and frustrating disease. Like most diabetics, the night is the most unpredictable and dangerous time for Tracy to be alone, without her partner. Tracy's blood sugar levels can drop extremely low and need corrections. Tracy sets alarms to wake up each night to check herself and Russell to catch these lows. Ulli was always there to back her up. Ulli is gone and irreplaceable. Yet, Tracy needs someone to assist her with disease management, which brings me to why I am reaching out to you today. We are launching a Go Fund Me campaign to bring Rogue, a diabetic alert dog, into the Tracy, Russell and Kai’s family!

Rogue is a fully trained diabetic alert dog.  With a price tag of $15,000, she comes ready to guard, alert, love, and cuddle. Thru Diabetic Alert Dogs of America, Tracy will not have to be on a long waitlist or do extensive volunteer hours in order get a trained dog.  With your help Rogue could arrive in April or May.  By day Rogue will accompany Russel to school and alert him when additional blood sugar corrections are needed. At night, she will be able to alert Tracy if either her or Russell’s blood sugar levels are critically low.

Please consider helping us bring Rogue home to support Tracy, Russell and Kai.

Any amount sent with love and intention is deeply appreciated. This as a great way to honor Ulli and mark the 2 year anniversary of his passing. Their loss is acute. A cute dog that loves and protects them is medicine for all on a great many levels.

Thank you.
With love,
Jen Handy and Friends
