Dominic Dello Margio's Cancer Story

I’m starting this GoFundMe page for my friend Dominic, a wonderful man who is in a very dire situation!

We all know how hard times are these days, and we never think that any serious health issues will happen to us. Unfortunately, my friend Dominic, now 58 years old, had his first bout of colon cancer at 19. Then twenty years later he was again diagnosed with colon cancer. And now, he has been diagnosed with throat cancer, which has spread to his lungs and his hip bone. In addition, after receiving a sigmoidoscopy the doctors have determined that his colon cancer has returned for the third time.

Dominic was born in New Jersey and moved to the Bay Area 30 years ago. For the last 18 ½ years he has worked as a floral manager at Safeway. He loves his job and is very good at it. He is beloved by his colleagues and friends and is always the light in every room he enters.

Last year Dominic had been diagnosed with needing a hip replacement. But then Covid-19 hit and his medical care was put hold. Unfortunately, the more recent diagnosis of bone cancer in his hip has further complicated his life. He is currently unable to work and is now on Disability. However, this does not cover his monthly financial responsibilities such a rent, food, and other essentials. And while his health insurance currently covers most of his medical costs, this will soon run out and he will be required to pay for his own insurance under COBRA. At this time, there are no other grants or public assistance available for him.

Dominic has been a friend and mentor for 12 years and was the person who hired me at Safeway all those many years ago. His sister Donna has offered her home to him but since she lives in New Jersey it is a huge physical and financial challenge for him. He does not drive, nor can he physically meet the challenge of packing up his home and re-assigning all his physicians in a new state.
