Update - 2/7/2025
It is with a heavy heart that I bear the news that my friend Niko has passed away on February 4th, 2025. I appreciate the kindness and generosity that this community has shown to my dear friend. I know that he was in a lot of pain from his treatments and now he is at peace. This news has been devastating to his family and friends.
I hate the phrase that someone "battles" with cancer, because once they die it makes it seem like they "lost" that fight to cancer. Yes, I know I am a hypocrite for using that phrase myself here. Niko did not lose to cancer. He was taken from us. It is a disease that takes many lives and causes great heartache. Niko's mother passed from cancer in 2017, and my own mother passed in 2001 due to cancer. Now this awful disease has taken Niko, another loved one from my life.
I am forever grateful to the community here, who saw fit to bless us with their time, donations, thought and prayers. Your support was of great comfort to Niko during this time and provided him with some sense of relief that he could focus on his treatment. It also alleviated the worries that he had about the financial burden that his condition and passing would leave on his family. I will keep these donations open to help support his family with funeral costs.
For anyone interested, his family has planned Niko's burial for February 26th at Rose Hills at 11 AM, where he will be buried alongside his mother. 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601
"When the walls come tumbling down, when you lose everything you have, you always have family. And your family always has tribe."
Thank you again for your love and support during these trying times.
Robert

Hello again,
Unfortunately I have come here again to reach out to the generosity of the wonderful people here on GoFundMe. A year ago I made a page on a whim to drum up support for my friend Niko, the owner of Niko's Donuts in Redondo Beach, CA. after he was robbed at gunpoint. The support we had gained from that gave Niko great appreciation for the community and the kindness of strangers in our amazing country.
I am here again, with worse tidings to humbly ask for the wonderful support of this awesome community. On Friday November 22, my good friend Niko has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. At the moment the doctors are still trying to determine the best course of action, and are still waiting for the results of his biopsy. I, along with his family and friends, are distraught by these revelations.
After the amount of hardships he has faced within the last few years from the numerous break-ins, robbery, and losing his mother to cancer. Niko has persevered and even got married back in May of this year. He has been trying to bring his wife over through legal means these last few months, but now he is trying to get an emergency visa for her.
Now to get to the point of this fundraiser. My friend is humbly asking for your generosity to raise $15,000 to help keep Niko's Donuts running. He hopes that this money will help cover about 4 months of rent, and other costs, so that he can hopefully train someone after the holiday months and help his aunt who will be managing the shop while he is figuring out his options and getting treatment. He has every intentions of fighting this terrible disease and continuing his life as close to normal as is possible, all of which includes waking up in the early hours of the morning, starting to bake at 3 A.M., so he can open his shop at 5, and serve and talk to his customers. Your donations will go to helping provide comfort and peace of mind during this turbulent moment in his life.
Anything that you are willing to donate will be a great help, and if you feel like this story is worth sharing I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you again for taking the time to read this and for any support you are willing to provide.
