Donations for Dumagat: Post-Super Typhoon Relief

Donation protected

Super-typhoons recently ravaged through the Philippines disrupting the lives and safety of Filipinos during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The Dumagat Tribe of Wawa Dam are a community severely devastated by Goni and Vamco.  They are an indigenous Filipino people that play a critical, yet under-appreciated role in forest conservation. The typhoons have endangered the Dumagat people’s agricultural livelihood and ravaged their homes.
The Dumagat reside in the expansive Sierra Madre mountains. These mountains act as a watershed  that would normally  buffer against the rainfall from typhoons. Yet over time, illegal logging  has destabilized the land. Without the natural barrier acting as protection,  the recent super-typhoons  have flooded almost 20 homes and destroyed the agricultural landscape for the Dumagat.
Superimposed on the super-typhoons, the Dumagat people  are suffering through the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Dumagat  have little support to make a living, and are dependent on their now depleted agriculture. The simultaneous loss of homes and agricultural landscape  is devastating  for the Dumagat of Wawa Dam.
Furthermore, the isolated location of the Dumagat makes the necessary relief efforts difficult to reach them.
This campaign aims to raise funding that will go towards securing the safety and livelihood of the Dumagat. One hundred percent of the proceeds  will go towards rebuilding the Dumagat  homes and restarting their agricultural livelihood. Through your generous donations you will be giving vital support to helping an indigenous peoples in the Philippines.
The hope is to restore the essentials for this warm community. They welcomed mountaineering enthusiasts like us and shared their bit of nature generously. By supporting the Dumagat people who own the mountains, we hope someday  to enjoy treks with them again someday. Perhaps in the future, you too, can see nature's treasure for yourself with the Dumagat Tribe of Wawa Dam.
