GoFundMe asks you to choose a category as to what type of event explains your cause. In Donna's case, it was hard for me to choose between “medical,” “animal,” and “emergency,” as it is a triple. freakin.’ whammy.
Living in Asheville, NC, Donna has been combating MS for several years to where she was forced (and, I’m telling you, forced. It took her doctors and friends a year of pushing for her to listen) to file for disability. It has since been a year and she is told it will likely take one more and a lawyer to get approved. In all this time she has not and will not have any income. Eevidently, this is pretty much how it goes for anyone who files. Now she is just hoping that Medicaid will pay retroactively for her astronomical medical expenses.
I've been trying to get her to let me do this funding thing for quite some time, but it took both her pet's death and a natural catastrophe for her to concede.
The day after Helene destroyed the part of Asheville where she lives (Biltmore Village), her dog Brodie suffered sudden paralysis in his hind limbs. For 2 days she was left unable to help him physically and ultimately lost him.
Like most everyone in Asheville, she will not even have running water for the foreseeable future (harder than it sounds). The air quality in her portion of the city is so bad from the mud from the river being bulldozed that she cannot breathe well in her own home.
She’s lost her health, her savings, her dog and her neighborhood. This is more than a person should be expected to bear.
