Help Mom Fight Incurable Cancer

Hello Friends and Family,
My name is Theresa DeFreitas, in honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to help my mom out by starting a Go Fund Me campaign.
Let me start by saying my mom, Donna DeFreitas, is the strongest most inspirational women in my life. She is my world and she means everything to me and my family.
At the young age of 50, my mom was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 Incurable Lung Cancer on December 10th 2012. This came as a complete shock to us, especially because my mom has never smoked a day in her life.
She immediately started going for chemo therapy and radiation treatment, along with other medical procedures.
As you can imagine, my mother was not able to work and had to go on permanent disability. As if this wasn’t enough of a life shattering experience, a month after my mother was diagnosed; my father was laid off of his job of 17 years. This was extremely hard on our family.
With the overwhelming amount of endless medical bills constantly coming in and a lack of income, this puts a great deal of stress on my mother and she is in desperate need of help.
My sister and I both work jobs on the side of pursuing our education, just to send money home to help our parents pay monthly bills. My parents have drained their savings and their retirement fund in order to keep up with all of the medical expenses.
What amazes me about my mother is that she has such a remarkably positive outlook on life. She refuses to give up and won’t stop fighting. When she was first diagnosed, her bones were so weak. She had to get a support rod placed in her leg where a tumor had been attacking her femur. She was on crutches for months. She slowly worked up to walking with a cane and before we knew it she was walking on her own again. Two years later, on August 21st 2014, she and her co-workers walked a 5K marathon for a cancer benefit walk.
My mother’s treatment has been going well for the first two years. Doctors are always impressed when her scans show that she is making progress.
Unfortunately this past December she had a slight setback. Exactly two years after being diagnosed, one of her scans came back saying that the cancer had spread to the brain.
Doctors immediately started treating her and are currently monitoring the status of the tumors.
She is determined to help work with doctors to find cure to this cancer so maybe one day in the future, families that go through this will have the peace of mind of knowing that there is a cure. Until then, we are figuring out a way to live with incurable cancer.
My mother, the strong women she is, keeps her spirits high and tells us all we will get through this. God gives his toughest battles to his strongest people.
I am asking you to please consider donating to this fund to help support my mother’s battle and help pay down the rising medical bills. Any amount of money truly helps.
Please share this page with your friends and families.
Thank you for your love and support, we are so grateful for everyone’s help over the years.
God bless you!
Happy Mother’s Day!
