When we started our journey to open our dream storefront, we were excited and hopeful. We envisioned transforming a former vape shop into the first Black-owned cheese shop in New England, a venture we believed would fulfill our dreams and serve our community.

However, our optimism quickly turned into frustration and despair when we fell victim to a contractor who scammed us out of $35,000 and then disappeared. The contractor initially promised us a seamless build-out, but he breached our trust and left us in a terrible position.

After months of delays and unfulfilled commitments, we tried to pursue justice through arbitration. Although we won a favorable judgment, the reality set in when we realized that recovering our funds was nearly impossible. This contractor had vanished despite us trying to engage the sheriff's office.

Not only did we lose the initial investment, but we also had to pay another contractor to complete the project. This unexpected expense meant we effectively paid twice for the same work, a substantial financial blow to our fledgling business.

The added strain of covering these unexpected costs severely hampered our ability to stock our inventory and maintain regular operations. The entire experience has been incredibly taxing on us both emotionally and financially.

We've been pursuing this judgment for over a year now and still feel the ramifications of his scam. Facing the uphill battle of rebuilding what was almost lost while dealing with the fallout from this contractor's betrayal.

Our dream of creating a thriving retail space is still alive, and we are more determined than ever to move forward. We're committed to keeping our doors open and continuing our journey, but we can't do it alone.

Reaching our goal would help us recover from our recent setback and extend our business hours, making it easier for our community to visit and enjoy our offerings on Main St.

One of the key items we originally earmarked for our space is a meat slicer. We plan to provide our customers freshly sliced meat and feature it in our weekly sandwich pop-ups.

Additionally, we aim to replenish the inventory that captivated our customers when we first opened. From unique cheeses to artisanal accompaniments, we want to reintroduce the beloved selections that made us a favorite on Main St.

The importance of inclusivity and safety for all our customers is high on our list. As we recover from our recent challenges, one of our goals is to expand our offerings to include more allergy-sensitive products, as we always planned. We are also bringing in more nondairy (Vegan) cheese SKUs/ products.
