Help me create the first ELA Coding Classic
Donation protected
Hi my name is Armando, aka The Founder. I'm asking you to please donate to this new summer program called LASER (LatinoRen After School Enrichment and Remuneration) AI Coding Camps.
I was raised in ELA (City Terrace to be more specific) and I graduated from Garfield High School being one of Jaime Escalante's last disciples. I've worked in Boyle and Lincoln Heights as an instructor at PUENTE Learning Center, as a county worker for LAC USC Medical Center, and as a volunteer in Ramona Gardens. I raised my own family in ELA because I believe it is one of the most culturally rich places to live in all of LA County.
My organization is inspired by my father who once told me..."tienes que convivir", which in literal terms means to live harmoniously with others. My father passed away over 20 years ago but that spirit still lives inside my community organization, LatinoRen. This many years later, I still fight for the little boy who could be named Armando and who might love to program but never got the chance to learn it until he got to college where in many ways it was probably too late.
Help me bring AI coding camps to the Inner City kids in ELA/Boyle and Lincoln Heights where its most needed. I need your help, please donate whatever you can even $5 makes a big difference if we all team up to change the world then we can create a new neighborhood where tech companies want to setup camp instead of a place where we have to fight for a Starbucks.
This money will be used to purchase and gift at least 20 students with chromebooks, to purchase 2 canopies to house the coding camps in both Belvedere and Hollenback Parks and to pay mentors and industry elite to come motivate the students and talk about their journey in the tech industry. I will volunteer my time to give these kids a chance to get into the most competitive colleges like Stanford, Harvard and Yale.
Besides these coding camps, I also promote Latinos in Aviation, and I have an existing GED program that would be offered to parents on the weekends so that every family member has the opportunity to improve their circumstance.
The camps will be held this July 2023 in the neighborhood parks that once helped me grow up into the Latino man that my father wanted me to be.
