Economical Alleviation for Mozambique Students
Donation protected
Hey my name is Jonathan and I hope you and your loved ones have been safe and healthy. As some of you may know, I was recently living in Mozambique, Africa serving in the Peace Corps. Unfortunately, due to the global pandemic that is Covid-19, we were all evacuated for precautionary, and safety reasons.
While I am no longer physically present in my home away from home, I have been in constant communication with some of my students and my host family. From what they have shared with me, it is clear that their situation has been difficult. Many things that we take for granted, such as schools and markets are closed.
However, unlike in the United States, the people living in countries like Mozambique don’t have the resources we do. They don't have the luxury of unemployment and other benefits to asset them.
One of my friends Elvis who is a university student reached out to me for assistance because he is forced to take his classes online; however the internet infrastructure isn't nearly as established as it is here in the United States. Without a proper income, students, teachers, and others lack the efficiency of an internet source which is very costly.
A student of mine calls every weekend so he can practice his English with me. From what he has been described, his situation is not good. Before the global situation, he would make some money doing odd jobs. That’s not possible at the moment, and it's been difficult for him to put any food on the table.
Examples like these are why I am reaching out to you all; I want to humbly ask you if you can spare anything from a few cents to a few dollars on my gofundme page. These funds will be sent to families close to my heart in Mozambique to help alleviate some of their economic burdens. I understand this is not the greatest of economical times, so if you’re able to help, I would greatly appreciate it. For every dollar donated, I will match it up to $100 myself.
Thank you for your time and considerations. Please stay safe.
