Eilers Killion Family Home Explodes

HOME EXPLODES – FAMILY INJURED AND LIFE CHANGED IN LESS THAN 45 SECONDS.

Most Sunday nights, Bill & Jessica Eilers and their children, Lexi Killion(14) & Daniel Eilers (9), are usually filled with prepping meals for the week, making sure homework is done and taking care of last minute laundry...just a typical family preparing for the work and school week ahead.

However, on Sunday Mar 3rd, around 6:15 pm, their home without any strange sounds, smells or warning, EXPLODED.

Bill let the dog outside, then went downstairs and was looking through some cards when Lexi went into his gun room and asked if she could look at one of his antique guns before she started on some homework and Netflix.  They were right next to each other when suddenly the house exploded.

What just happened? Bill thought. He had been pushed forward and his head had hit the table. He looked over at Lexi who was unconscious.  He got to his feet and picked up Lexi. As they climbed over a heavy door Lexi came to and Bill helped her out the garage.  The garage door had been blown off. Everything was orange. Bill told Lexi to stay in the yard and went upstairs to find Daniel.

As Bill made his way to the first floor, the stairs were on fire. He yelled for Daniel. Daniel had been in his bedroom on the 2nd floor playing with his beloved Legos when he heard a loud BOOM and his bed went up off the floor and fell back down.  Daniel says, 'he booked it out of there'.  While Bill was yelling for Daniel, he heard Daniel screaming in the front yard, so he came out the front door.  Daniel’s quick thinking of immediately leaving the house saved him from any burn injuries.

Lexi was bleeding from her face, arms, and legs.  There was so much blood, the EMT’s cut off her clothes in the ambulance to treat multiple burns and lacerations.  Her clothes were also wet from the fish tank that had exploded and rained down on them from the first floor.  This is probably the first of many miracles that allowed this family to escape the fiery garage and survive this horrendous experience.   A neighbor heard the explosion and took a video with their cell phone.  A 31-second video shows the house already engulfed in flames coming from the garage, Bill, Lexi, & Daniel are nowhere to be seen in that video.  That means they are still in the house when that video was shot.

Jessica had been running errands that afternoon and was in the area, she had a long list of things to be done – go to the gym, stop at the store, get gas in her car, pick up Chinese food for the kids, Sushi for them.  A strange number kept calling her cell phone.  She dismissed it as a telemarketing call.  Then she received a call from Bill...'The house exploded, everything's gone, it's all on fire, it's all gone.' She raced home and by then multiple fire trucks and emergency vehicles had lined their quiet street in Erlanger.  She parked at the top of the hill where the EMT’s had Lexi in an ambulance.  Lexi was crying she didn’t want to go without someone going with her and Jessica had arrived just in time.  Jessica got into the ambulance and the police brought Daniel from the neighbors house and he got in the ambulance with Lexi and they went to Children’s Hospital.  Bill was taken by ambulance to UC Hospital.

The fire department reported they heard two more explosions in the house.   They also reported they had to move their crew out of the house due to a large hole in the first floor to avoid injury and it took over 1 ½ hour to contain the fire.   The house and all of the familys’ possessions are gone.  But the Eilers and Killion families are EXTREMELY grateful they still have each other.

Daniel loves Legos and had built up quite a collection of Legos.  Lexi is an 8th grader, plays volleyball and has been a cheerleader at Tichenor.  She also likes being outdoors, playing softball, and is a talented make-up artist.   Jessica is creative and outgoing.  She loves her bulldog.  She designed each one of the rooms in the house.  She likes to paint, decorate, organize cabinets and closets and garden.  She works for Verst Logistics and is never afraid to work hard for what she wants.  She always goes the extra mile. Her family is her passion.  She has a big heart and is always willing to give an encouraging word.   Bill is an avid outdoorsman.  He works at Bosch in Florence. He likes his salt water fish tank, duck hunting, and target shooting.  He likes to hike and kayak.  Jessica and Bill were married in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.   They have lived in Erlanger since 2006.

The Eilers/Killion family have received many donations of clothes and some gift cards for food and stores.  They really need cash to replace necessities and assist with medical deductibles and living expenses.  It will be a very long and arduous task to navigate insurance claims. The wounds on the outside will heal with time.  Bill will not be able to go back to working very soon because his head and hand were severely injured.  Some small pieces of fire hit both he and Lexi in the eyes. Thankfully nothing that will affect their sight long term.  However, it will take a lot longer to heal the traumatic experience they have all endured.  With family, friends, the kindness of their community, and God’s grace, they will get through this.

Please donate as much as you can NOW to help this very worthy family.  Thank you in advance for your help.
