Ellen Heine, 56 years old, has been a Washington Township, NJ resident for the past 30 years and she needs your help.
Ellen has been married for 35 years, has 3 adult children and recently became a grandmother to twin baby girls. What should be a happy time – celebrating two daughters getting married and becoming a grandma – has turned into a sad, stressful and heartbreaking time. The family was shocked to the core when Ellen was diagnosed with End Stage Liver Disease in December 2014. Having never drank alcohol in her life, and being adopted with an unknown medical history, this diagnosis has been life shattering.
For the last 10+ years, Ellen worked for Center for Family Services based in Glassboro, NJ. She was passionate about her job helping troubled and disadvantaged youth and truly found her life’s calling. Since the diagnosis, she has been hospitalized numerous times. She is dealing with many side effects of the disease including: hepatic encephalopathy (high ammonia levels in her body which cause memory loss and confusion), fluid retention in her abdomen (which gets removed weekly via paracentesis), albumin transfusions, and variceal bleeding in her esophagus. Due to all the complications of the disease, she is mentally and physically unable to work, and thus was placed on disability. The only cure for Ellen is a liver transplant.
With increasingly frequent hospital stays, multiple weekly doctor visits, prescriptions, testing, and costly copays for every visit and medicine, medical bills are quickly piling up. The financial toll on the family has become too much. Please help Ellen!
We are grateful for any donations you are able to make! We are so thankful there are people like you who show their support for families in need.
