On August 7, I received the most devestating news of my life. My 3-year-old dear grandson, Evan Michael Lopez, was diagnosed with a sudden case of Spinal Meningitis.
Initialy they made 3 trips to the ER and he has now been hospitalized for over two weeks.
My fun-loving toddler grandson who was once so full of life could not walk a single step. My heart was just broken.
An MRI of his brain and spinal cord confirmed that he has ADEM, inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. The odds of contracting this is one in a million.
The doctors cannot explain how he got this disorder, but now we are faced with insurmountable bills. They do know, that there was nothing we could have done to prevent it. With significant medical treatment, the doctors are convinced that he will gain his strength back, which has given us some hope.
Evan will need weeks of intensive therapy to help him walk again. He will need medication and lots of help learning to do basic everyday activities.
