How the Evolution House started:
I've had a long struggle with substance abuse in my life. During this long, and sometimes very painful process, I came to realize that we as humans are stronger together. In 2016 my sister Toy Carver Stone and I dreamed up a place where people in recovery could come together and live in a loving, supportive atmosphere. One thing that sets us apart from other sober living houses is that we have a house manager with a solid foundation in recovery who lives alongside the other residents and helps guide the newcomers. Having this one point of accountability allows the house meetings and other interactions to be solely focused on recovery and building healthy relationships.
Not long after we opened The Evolution House, my world was totally devastated when my sister Toy passed away. I spent many months looking for a reason to keep on living. The Evolution House became that reason. This house has become a safe haven for people in recovery and for the past 3 years, it has changed the lives of many people in miraculous ways.
Before-and-after of our 1st Evolution House:
Why:
Our community has felt a pressing need for drug and alcohol free housing. We have seen people we love in our recovery community relapse and die at an alarming rate. That devastation hit home when two of our former housemates lost there life to this horrible disease. Understanding the the importance of a solid foundation and the need for a brotherhood in early recovery has lead us to take a big leap forward in doing our part to help, which has led us into to opening a second Evolution House.
The new house we are currently renting (with the intention to buy) is in the process of being transformed from doctor’s office into a large residential recovery residence. So far, we have been doing the renovations on a shoestring budget and delays with current events have cost a lot of money.
If you can, please consider making a donation as an Investment into the lives of those in our recovery community. We have come so far already, and we are almost over the biggest hurdle of all! Right now we are waiting on permits and inspections.
Unfortunately time is not on our side, and every week that goes by costs us greatly. However, our faith is strong and our dream is big! Thank you SO much for your support.
Where we are at now:
The second evolution house it is on the verge of getting the permits to do the bathrooms and kitchens We're super excited about moving forward and getting the house open!!! Here are some pictures of the work we have done so far.
[UPDATE 4/23] We have received our permits!! It took about three months to go through all the processes to get the permits. We are now building the bathrooms and doing the rough-ins. We still could use your support as our budget is running thin. The cost to install one of these bathrooms is more than $6000. If you find it possible, please send us a donation. This is a critical time for the success of the house!
BEFORE:
AFTER:
Just removing this wall has opened up so much space, its incredible! We did the same thing and on both sides and removed the wall opposite to this in front room. So there is a very open feel from the kitchen all the way through the living room and dining room.
Where is the money going?
Your donation would help to finish the last mile of this journey. We are creating three bathrooms and a kitchen. We are also outfitting what used to be individual exam rooms for the doctor's office into bedrooms complete with furniture, sheets, mattresses, pillows etc.… We are also trying to get washers and dryers for the laundry room. There is flooring and lighting that needs to be completed, also.
As you could imagine on a project this large there are tons of other things that we are sure we’re forgetting! We are extremely grateful for your contributions to help this dream come to fruition.
Ultimate Goal:
Our long-term goal is to establish evolution house as a nonprofit. Right now, we are in the process of learning what it takes to create such an entity. We are cultivating relationships with people in the community to guide us through this process. So that the evolution house may live on forever.
We want to continue opening more houses to meet the needs of the individuals of people in the community We have a dream of opening a house for women with children, as well as housing for veterans and active duty military. We dream of creating housing for low income individuals, people who are differently-abled and much, much more.
