Helping Maverick Melton recover from his stroke!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tarah Helms and I am creating this go fund me account for my little brother Maverick Melton
on 7/27/23 he had a stroke, the drs found a tear in his neck artery which allowed blood clots go to his brain.
the doctors did emergency surgery that night, they put a stent in his neck and removed some of the blood clots.
Maverick will be in the ICU for at least a week and is on stroke protocol.
the after effect of the stroke left Maverick paralyzed on his left side of the body, thankfully he still has cognitive function and can speak some. He has slurred words and stutters, but is able to communicate thank goodness !
Maverick is a Navy Veteran, and does have VA healthcare, and they should be taking care of his medical expenses,
but maverick will be out of work for an unknown amount of time, and any help we can get will go directly to his bills to give him some relief while we figure out what the next steps are for him physically and financially.
all money raised will go directly to maverick/his estate to get his bills paid as soon as we get everything sorted out.
I will keep everyone updated with mavericks progress
he is in the ICU in Portland, if anyone would like to visit him, please contact me or our mom Michele Kessel to get the information for that

Maverick is doing worse today,
His brain has a lot of swelling, and there is no more room in his skull, he is about to go in for another CT scan, and it's likely he will go in for another emergency surgery to remove part of his skull to allow for brain swelling and to relieve pressure.
The nurses were talking with him this morning and he knows he is in the hospital but couldn't tell them his name.
7/29 3:00 pm
They are still closely monitoring him. They have him on a salt saline to get him to pee out the excess liquid in his body. It seems to be doing ok. He is in a lot of pain in his head. It’s really hard to see him suffering. They gave him dilaudid which aloud him to calm down and sleep. At this time there is no immediate plan for surgery. He will not be leaving ICU anytime soon.
7/30 8pm
He had another CT scan, and they confirmed that half his brain is "black" which means it's dead matter and not working .
Swelling hasn't gone down, but they're monitoring closely as as long as it doesn't get worse he will be able to avoid another surgery for now .
He can remember everyone whose visited him
And when mom asked what her name was he said michele , and she asked what his name was and he said maverick
Update 8/2
He has had some pretty rough nights, and hurting so bad he doesn’t want to deal with the pain anymore . They have him on stoke protocol still, and have a set schedule for pain meds as to not overwhelm his organs .
He was slightly able to lift his left leg today , but it took everything out of him.
His brain swelling has gone down just a little, and his speech is a bit stronger, but his slurr is still heavy.
Thank you everyone whose gone to visit him, said a prayer, and sent good/healing thoughts his way and donated!
We appriciate every single one of you!
