UistFilm, part of Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre (Scottish Charity # SC 022145), in Lochmaddy, North Uist, are fundraising now to digitise a variety of recently unearthed collections of 8mm film totalling over 12,000' feet or 9 hours duration.

Collections to be digitised include:
- Cathleen Russell’s (née MacAskill) childhood and family scenes in North Uist potentially including additional footage of Gloria & Splash’s wedding reception at Newton House which her family ran.
- Jimmy Munro’s footage, primarily unique footage of St Kilda in the late 60s while working on MOD base construction and also life in and around Lochmaddy including Hercules the Bear
- Additional reels of Annie Cnoc na Luib’s home movie footage of North Uist from the 70s to add to the outstanding collection digitised in 2018
- Gaelic tradition bearer and folklorist Margaret Bennett’s father’s home movie footage from Canada and Scotland
- Mackenzie family Uist holidays at Ardheisker, 1966-68 featuring the MacLeod family, crofting, thatching, trout fishing, daffodil growing and various other scenes of Uist and Barra.
The FAODAIL | FOUND digitisation programme was launched in December 2018, when we successfully crowdfunded to digitise the Annie (Chnoc na Luib) Macdonald’s Super8 collection which revealed fantastic gems of Outer Hebridean moving image history. In 2021 the Anne and Bill Scott collection of Berneray footage from the 60s and 70s was digitised and inspired the award-winning feature documentary Dùthchas produced by UistFilm.
FAODAIL | FOUND will make digitised films accessible online and in venues across the Outer Hebrides. Screening events will present the films to a wide range of audiences to collect detailed information and reminiscences from the eras and locations relating to the films. This added context will be of immense value to Outer Hebridean social history for future generations.
All donors to this campaign will receive a unique free FAODAIL | FOUND video download.
