Help Set a Precedent for Workplace Safety and Flexibility

Hi, I'm Deborah, and I need your support in a crucial legal battle that could change the landscape for Australian workers, especially those over 55.

For four years, I've successfully worked from my Melbourne home for one of Australia's leading banks. At 62 I’m at higher risk of complications from COVID and other airborne diseases but by being cautious in all my activities I’ve avoided illness – so far. Now I'm being forced to return to the office 50% of the time, despite the ongoing risks of COVID and other airborne diseases. The Fair Work Act recognises the rights of employees over 55 to request flexible work arrangements, yet the bank denied my request. The Fair Work Commission upheld this refusal, stating that accommodating my concerns would be “simply unreasonable” and that the bank has “Reasonable business grounds for refusing”.

However, I believe that protecting all workers is not just reasonable—it's essential.
