North Wicklow Feral Cat & Kitten Care with Louise
Donation protected
Although Greystones Kitty Hostel no longer has an enclosure or premises anymore, also we are no longer in receipt of the grant or any funding....
I'm still caring for some local colonies and ofcourse doing TNR (trap neuter return), I can't imagine a time when Id have to stop.
There are just so few of us around the entire country that do TNR even just losing one person would be a catastrophe (excuse the pun)
Although I still get a discount from my vet I can't realisticly take on cases unless I know they can be funded.
I hate asking for money but if a lot of people chip in a little amount it all adds up and I can give the cats the care they so desperately need.
~Greystones Kitty Hostel Rescue & TNR Service is Closing Down~
It is with the heaviest and saddest of hearts i have to deliver the this awful news....
Greystones Kitty Hostel must announce the closing of its cat enclosure.
Our Story
After our original enclosure was torn down by the council we needed to rebuild on private land and quick!
My wonderful Grandad immediately came to our rescue and gave us the use of the land behind his home where we could have privacy, safety, running water and electricity.
It couldnt have worked out any better. Greystones kitty hostels loyal followers believed in us so much that they stepped up to the plate with donations large and small but every single one making a difference.
Within 3 days we had a much bigger and better enclosure built where countless feral cats came from the most terrible, horrific situations, were neutered to stop the constant reproduction, recovered from illness and injuries were rehabilitated and learnt trust in humans again with the help of the fantastic volunteers who tirelessly worked their magic so much so thats we had an almost a 90% rehoming rate.
Unfortunately grandad became very ill and ended up in hospital where he picked up covid 19, he fought a good fight but in the end the virus won and he passed away peacefully just before Christmas.
Anyone who knows me will know how close Grandad and i were and my utter devastation is indescribable.
Along with the excruciating pain of losing the one consistant loving & faithful person in my life his house and land will be sold.
If that wasnt painful enough, some not-so-kind person/s reported our enclosure on the grounds that it was built without receiving the "necessary" planning permission from Wicklow County Council. We were given 4 weeks to remove the "unathorised" structure.
We have been very busy finding placements for the cats we have. Some need special care, some have special dietary needs and some are just plain bonkers!
If you think you can assist us in any way please dont hesitate to contact myself on my own page @louise cardiff. Or email [email redacted]
These things can take a while so we will still be in need of the publics help for the likes of food, meds, neutering etc.
Food, cleaning equipment etc donations are greatly appreciated and can be dropped to my home, please pm for address.
Thankyou from the bottom of my heart to the volunteers, followers and supporters you have all made a differenece towards these otherwise forgotten felines lives.
Also we were no longer in receipt of the grant from Dept of Agriculture as from last year rescues must have Charity Status to get it unfortunately we didnt have enough people involved to form committees etc. ....
TNR was just one of our invaluable volunteer ran services, to Trap- Neuter- Return and to maintain and assist in the basic daily needs of feral/wild/outdoor/garden/community cats.
Another goal we achieved was to to rescue, rehabilitate & return or rehome ill and injured stray/lost/displaced adult cats.
Our purpose built enclosure that could house approx 20 adult cats at any one time, giving them plenty of time to recover and find the most suitable homes in complete safety.
These cats were lovingly cared for by our experienced team of volunteers who spend time daily maintaining not only food, adequate shelter, multifunctional toys such as scratching posts to keep their nails trim, chewy toys/treats for dental health, interactive toys to keep them stimulated in a clean, warm and ambient environment also making sure they have the regular grooming, cuddles and playtime ofcourse!
Our dedicated volunteers would also foster, tame, socialise & adopt out kittens from their own homes.

We do ask for an adoption fee of €50 per kitten. After losing our premises we no longer qualify for the government grant we had previously been in receipt of so now this fee is our only form of income and goes directly back into Rescue and Trap Neuter Return.

TNR is the only proven solution to Irelands over-population of cats crisis using ISPCA supported, humane methods, so these cats
1: Dont Reproduce (females can get pregnant as young as four months & could produce 3 litters in one year. So one female can be responsible for 30 kittens per year. Most will perish or be put to sleep in shelters.
2: Will stop all the nuisance behaviours driven by the mating instinct ie. Yowling, fighting, spraying & wandering.
3: Stop the spread of disease amongst the cats and other problems associated with in-breeding which is very often the case with these cat colonies. Neutering also lowers the risk of certain cancers.
4: Cats are part of our eco-system now and if they were to be "culled" Ireland would be inundated with disease spreading rats etc. Cats are mother natures "pest control".
5: Discourage others as cats are territorial. After a colony has been TNR'd you are left with a healthy stable core group which will keep our homes and businesses rodent & kitten free for atleast 10 years for the one off price of neutering.
Its not much to ask. To save a life.... Many lives infact. Make a difference. Please Donate.
I promise nothing is ever "not enough" we can all only do our best. We loved doing the work & are still very passionate about educating people on the subject.
We are really thankful for peoples unwavering support over the years.
Thank you xxx
