Fighting chance for Alex and Baby Beau

Alexandra and James Chandler welcomed their first baby to the world on Sunday, January 9th. After years of fertility struggles and finally giving birth, COVID-19 has robbed Alex of the joy of being a first time Mom.

Alex was diagnosed with Covid-19 when she went in for labor despite being fully vaccinated. In fact, she remained hyper vigilant all throughout her pregnancy in order to not contract the virus. She arrived to work as a teacher on January 6th, but had to leave early as she did not feel well. Alex attributed it to pregnancy fatigue and possibly a cold. Prior to going into labor, the hospital tested Alex for COVID and it came back positive. Fortunately, she did not encounter any other complications and had a successful C-Section. After giving birth to her baby boy, Alex spent a few nights in the hospital and was then sent home on the 12th. This is where her illness took a turn for the worse and progressed rapidly as she began to experience shortness of breath on Thursday the 13th. Both Alex and Baby Beau went into the ER to be evaluated and doctors suspected Alex to have a blood clot. Ultimately, she was diagnosed with both COVID and Pneumonia. On Saturday, January 15th, Alex required additional medical support to be able to breathe and was eventually intubated. She later experienced a double pneumothorax (both lungs had collapsed). Alex remains hospitalized as she fights to return home to her sweet baby and loving husband.

Alex is by far the kindest person and loved by everyone who knows her. She is a woman full of grace and seeing how others rally around her is a true testament to her character.
