Fighting for Tia: Round 2
Donation protected
In late February 2015, my best friend of over 16 years, Tia told me a lump was found in her breast. After a mammogram and biopsy were performed, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. Stage 4 breast cancer means the cancer has spread beyond the breasts into other parts of the body. For Tia this means it has spread into both breast, her lymph nodes and bones. This came as a total shock as only 2% of all cancer patients are under the age of 30. Tia was only 26 when she was first diagnosed. Tia was able to overcome her first battle with cancer. Now 27 and less than a year later, her cancer has returned.
We are still learning more about her diagnosis and treatment plan, but what we do know is Tia is a fighter and is unwilling to allow this hiccup to stop her from smiling. She is a graduate of the SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She is currently serving as an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department. Even with health coverage, Tia has a long road ahead and many of her health expenses will go uncovered, coupled with the unpaid leave she will have to take from work as she receives treatment.
With this site I hope to raise awareness and support for not just Tia, but for all breast cancer patients and survivors. I’m asking that you uplift Tia with your prayers and kind words. For those who wish to donate financially as well, know that all donations will go to help Tia with medical-related expenses. If you do decide to offer financial support, please know that our goal is to raise $10,000 by November1.
