Help Florizelle to Represent USA
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Florizelle Songco. I am a Junior in high school in New York City and I am looking for sponsors to help me achieve my dream of representing USA in a chess competition and my first time participation at the World Youth Chess Championship later this year in Halkidiki, Greece. Although I have qualified for the World Youth Chess Championships three previous times, the cost of travel, accommodations and training are quite high and this left me unable to compete.
Although chess, like other sports, is traditionally dominated by men, many women have achieved the level of Grandmaster. This is what drew me to chess: being able to beat the boys at their own game. I learned how to play when I was six years old but only began to compete in scholastic chess tournaments in the third grade. In between homework, volunteering at my school’s chess club and working on weekends at a chess academy, I find time to compete at local and national tournaments.
What I truly enjoy about the game of chess are the many friendships I have made throughout the years. Being the only girl from the state of New York to qualify for my age group this year, I will strive to do my best and make my home state and country proud.
Individual Highlights:
2015
All Girls National Championships
2nd (Under 16)
Greater New York Scholastic Chess Championships

2013

2013

All proceeds will help offset the cost of my travel, coaching and accommodation while in Greece.
Many thanks for all your support and donations.
If you know of any other sponsorship opportunities that may help me achieve my goal, you may contact me at [email redacted].
Once in Greece, I will update this page with details of my journey to keep you posted as I represent the United States and compete in the World Youth Chess Championships.
Thank you in advance for all your support!
Best,
Florizelle
