FOLK MUSIC NOTEBOOK 2025 "TIP JAR"

Since 2019, Folk Music Notebook has been presenting the finest folk to a global audience, 24 hours a day. We exist through funding from limited advertising and sponsorship and through the generosity of listeners like you who make a contribution to our "tip jar." While we are an LLC and not a tax-deductible organization, we serve as a resource for the folk community - presenting emerging artists as well as the individuals and groups that built this diverse genre of "folk."

Our "tip jar" is comparable to the open guitar case you see that supports buskers on the streets and subways, the glass jar in your favorite coffee shop, and the basket that is passed at venues to support the artists and the venues themselves.

Where does the money go? The rights fees to air the music - music publishers and SoundExchange that give us the rights to stream the music, and those costs grow with each additional listener that tunes in. There are the technical fees we pay to operate the channel - a tech service that maintains servers and systems that allow us to operate, website maintenance, equipment, supplies, and even marketing costs - all done on a shoestring budget. We also plan for live broadcasts and video streams from events like the Northeast and Southeast Regional Folk Alliances (NERFA and SERFA) as well as our annual live broadcasts from the main stage at the Old Songs Festival in Altamont, New York. We've started a new video program on our YouTube channel. There is so much more we can do, and it is all because of your support.
