Support Sulayman's Village: Food & Water Now

I’m Ian Garvey from Blue Ridge, Ga USA and I’m raising funds for my dear friend Sulayman in his village of Sarre Mawdo, Gambia.

Right now, Sulayman has a gofundme to raise $43,000 to drill 3 boreholes and create wells to provide his people with a sustainable water source. This will not only provide 214 people with reliable, safe drinking water; but also allow them to water their gardens and provide food independence as well. Raising this money, however, will take time and currently people are suffering from lack of food and water, so much so that it is a serious threat to their lives.

Sulayman has determined that it will cost $7,000 to feed and hydrate his village of 214 people for 6 months. Please considering donating to this fund so that they can survive in the short term while they raise money to build long term sustainability and stability.

Every single person has passions, hopes, desires, goals, skills, interests and all these things that make life stimulating and enjoyable, but it’s really hard to think about those things when survival is a constant daily battle.

This is more than just food and water, but it STARTS with food and water.

Let’s support this courageous and creative young man. He is carrying so, so much trying to uplift his community. He doesn’t want to lose anyone else in his community to hunger or dehydration and his heart is breaking, but he believes in the power of community and caring for each other so much that he maintains his optimism that the international community will hear his story, see how big his heart is, see his people as inherently worthy of life sustaining resources, and come together to make a real, lasting difference.

How will the money be transferred?

Because Gambia isn’t a country supported by Gofundme fundraisers, I’ll be collecting the money in a savings account I only use for fundraising and transfer the funds to Sulayman by using Remitly, where he will pick up physical cash in Brikama.

I have verified that Sulayman is indeed a real person trying to make a real difference for his community. We’ve talked on the phone, I sent him money through Remitly which requires confirming legal name and location, and he sent me pictures of the food he bought from the market to feed everyone.
