Help My Mom Battle Kidney Failure
In June of 2014, my mom, Michelle “Shelly” Voll (Meeker), lost her health coverage through her employer because it didn’t meet with “ObamaCare regulations.” She then tried to get health insurance through Medicaid and Obamacare but was denied both. My mom sought work elsewhere with benefits but with her declining health was unable to continue with the employment. She returned to her previous employer in October 2015. It was better for her physically, but she still knew something wasn’t right. During her time back with this employer, my mom met Diana Pastore, who she now credits for saving her life. In December 2015, Diana told my mom about a clinic in Marysville that is income based. My mom called and made an appointment for January 4, 2016. At the appointment, her vital signs were abnormal so they did blood work to find out what was going on.
The next day, I received a call from my mom while I was at work. She was hysterical on the phone and her voice was full of sadness and fear; the only thing that I could make out was that she needed me to take her to the Marysville Emergency Room immediately because she was in kidney failure. This was the worst phone call I have ever received and a phone call that has changed my mom’s life for forever. My mom and our family was completely blind sighted. My mom was so devastated and had no idea what was happening. She was admitted into the hospital for a week for stabilization. My mom had to get two blood transfusions, see many specialists, and have many tests done while in the hospital.
My mom now has at least two doctor appointments a week. She is now delivering papers seven days a week early in the morning to be able to be available for the appointments through the day. This job has been destroying her health due to a split sleep schedule and not getting a day off. Most of her doctors are in Columbus so travel expenses have drained her funds. My mom has applied for disability per her doctor’s request and has been denied three times, which is very shocking to everyone involved.
My mom received the fistula for dialysis on June 6th, 2017 and had another surgery on Monday, September 11th to improve the use of the fistula in hopes that it will grow enough to be used for the dialysis. During her last surgery, she had a couple of complications due to her kidney failure. She is hoping to be on dialysis within the next the month.
Family and friends of Shelly are asking for help with monies for medical expenses, living expenses, and transportation expenses back and forth to doctor appointments and soon dialysis. Gas gift cards, grocery gift cards, or any other help will be greatly appreciated as well. We thank you in advance for any help that you can give to help support my mom while she battles for her life.
