Frank Killam's Stroke Recovery Fund
Donation protected
This GoFundMe has been created for Frank Killam, my best friend for over 20 years.
On March 26, 2016, Frank (age 59) had a massive stroke. He spent 6 weeks in the hospital and is fully paralyzed on the left side of his body. We are all in complete shock and are trying stay strong for him and his family.
If you don’t know Frank well, here is a little bit about him: He is a father, a husband, an avid car enthusiast, an artist, a teacher, and a dear friend to many. Frank is incredibly artistic and has worked as the design sculptor for GM, BMW, VW, and Audi. He has also instructed clay modeling at the Art Center College of Design in the transportation design program. Additionally, Frank is a long time member of the radio controlled and full scale car community (you would probably find him in the winners circle).
Now Frank is completely wheelchair bound and in need of constant care. Frank's wife Linda, recently retired, has dedicated every day to staying by his side and giving him the all day care he needs. His son Paul has taken this semester off from his college studies to be with his father and do everything he can to help.
Even though the strokes have had serious impacts on Frank’s body, his soul stays as full and bright as ever. He’s still cracking jokes like, "Hospital gowns. One Size fits No One." and "Lets go to In-n-Out, you drive, I'll buy." and still determined as ever to get his beloved Vega to the next car show.
My hope is that with the generous donations from our community we can help Frank’s family pay for medical bills and get him extra access to physical therapy. The first 6 months after a stroke are the most important to reestablish connections in the body so the sooner we can get him more resources the better.
What has happened to Frank makes me sad everyday. Frank’s passions fulfilled his life and I don’t want him to have to live without them. All I want is another chance to beat my best friend at a 1/5th scale race, even though he will definitely still win. Thank you for taking the time to read this and anything you can give is greatly appreciated.
